We are so very thankful for people like you who have embraced our mission and make possible all the good that we do. The Indianapolis Legal Aid Society is recognized as a non-profit organization under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3), Federal ID #35-1045153, and donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law.  We are not federally funded, and we are a United Way partner agency, so we rely on individuals and businesses to provide our funding base.  We pride ourselves on being extremely efficient in providing legal services to our clients. Approximately 88% of our budget goes directly to the provision of legal services while only 12% goes to overhead.

There are many ways to support the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society. Please consider donating online as one of the quickest and most effective ways of making a difference. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and helps so many Hoosiers. Whether outright or deferred, the tax advantages of charitable giving may be substantial. Individuals should consult with their attorneys or tax advisors to determine tax benefits when making gifts other than cash.

MONTHLY DONATIONS

Provide essential support for the services of ILAS by setting up automatic donations through a credit card. You will be providing ILAS a stable and reliable source of funding that allows us to plan ahead. Making smaller monthly donations allows many donors to support ILAS at a much higher level. For example, $10 per month equals $120 a year! You can change or suspend your donation at any time.

TRIBUTE GIFTS

A perfect way to celebrate a special occasion, honor someone special, or remember a loved one or friend is with a donation in their name. We’ll send a card notifying them or the family of your thoughtful remembrance. You can make your donation on-line and indicate the name of the person you are honoring at the bottom of the page.  Your gift will pay tribute to someone special while supporting the important work of the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society.

RESTRICTED GIFTS

You can help an individual receive civil legal assistance by making a restricted donation to the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society. A restricted gift could also support a specific program area such as adoptions or group of people such as our Senior/Disabled Program. Please call if you would like to discuss making a restricted gift, or make your donation on-line and indicate how you would like your donation used in the “Additional Information” text box.

PLANNED GIFT

Planned giving is the process of making the decision – while a donor is alive, to give a charitable gift upon the donor’s passing.  Your annual support of ILAS is vital to our ongoing service, and by establishing a planned gift to ILAS, you will help ensure we can continue serving the poor well into the future.  There are many types of planned gifts which offer favorable financial and/or tax benefits to the donor.  Here are a few ways to make a planned gift: Remember ILAS in your Will; Donate Stocks; set up a Charitable Trust; donate through Life Insurance or your Retirement Plan.  ILAS recommends that you consult an estate planning professional about these or other planned giving options.  If you wish to notify us of a Planned Gift, please complete and send this form to ILAS, 615 N Alabama Street Suite 122, Indianapolis, Indiana 46204.

IRA CHARITABLE ROLLOVER GIFT

Are you required to take a distribution from your IRA?  In December 2015, a permanent IRA Charitable Rollover provision became law. The legislation allows individuals age 70 1/2 or older to make tax-free gifts of up to $100,000 from a traditional IRA account directly to qualified charities.  If your spouse has IRA accounts, you may each make gifts of up to $100,000 from these accounts.  While you cannot claim a charitable deduction for IRA gifts, this distribution from your IRA counts towards your minimum required distribution for the account and does NOT trigger income tax for you.  It is a tax-free transfer from the IRA account directly to the Indianapolis Legal Aid Society.

In order to complete an IRA Charitable Rollover, please contact your IRA provider for exact instructions.
